Chapter 11

A concept from the chapter that connects well to Kroger is reward and evaluation systems. At Kroger, managers and employees are constantly measured on things like sales, efficiency, and customer experience. What the company chooses to reward really matters. If leadership only focused on short-term numbers, it could push employees to cut corners, like understaffing stores or prioritizing speed over service. Instead, Kroger has to balance those financial goals with things like customer satisfaction and employee retention to keep operations running smoothly. Leadership isn’t just about setting goals, but also about making sure the incentives in place actually encourage the right behaviors across the organization.
